Valencia is located in northern Los Angeles County, approximately 20 minutes north of the San Fernando Valley and 45 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. It is often referred to as a city but more accurately it is one of one of four subsections or areas that make up the City of Santa Clarita, which was established in 1987 and incorporated Valencia, Canyon Country, Saugus and Newhall. We are still in the process of incorporating the two neighbor cities of Stevenson Ranch and Castaic. Valencia is located in the Santa Clarita Valley which is bordered by mountains all around and the two freeways, 5 Golden State Freeway and the 14 Antelope Valley Freeway, making the commute to either Glendale or the Burbank Studios or downtown Los Angeles where many of our residents work, very easy. Although both freeways are easily accessible from Valencia, The Golden State 5 freeway is just adjacent to Valencia and provides the easiest and quickest route to the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles proper. We also have a very clean and efficient Metro link train system and several convenient stations, each complete with a park and ride lot that is available for a quick and easy commute to downtown Los Angeles.
Valencia is a “master planned” community and is renowned nationwide for its intricate system of walking and biking trails called “paseos.” These night lighted trails go all though Valencia and incorporate some very beautiful scenery including mountains, green belts and wildlife reserves into their various paths. As of 2012 it is reported that approximately 31,000 people live in Valencia. The median age is 33 and of those 76% work in “white collar” jobs. There are approximately 10,000 households in Valencia and of those almost half or 4,732 have children. The majority of the residents have a college bachelor’s degree or graduate level degree, approximately 7,000 people. The majority of the other residents have a high school diploma and some college level training. The average income per household is $117, 473. The average family who lives in Valencia has had approximately a 32% increase in income since 2000 and has an average net worth of slightly above $900,000. The current median price of a home in Valencia is $355,000. There are many lovely single family homes, large and small and townhomes and condominiums located in Valencia, so there basically are homes available for every price range and family size need.
Many of the people who live in Valencia commute to work, we do have a beautiful new industrial center called the “Valencia Industrial Center,” which is constantly attracting new businesses and bringing jobs to our city from all over the country. Valencia and the City of Santa Clarita is one of our nation’s the safest city of its size in the ENTIRE United States. Valencia and the City of Santa Clarita was also voted by Money Magazine and Newsweek as one of the best place to live in California. Our schools are excellent at both the primary and secondary level and have won State and National “Blue Ribbon“ awards. Valencia also has several very excellent private schools such as Pine Crest and Legacy Academy among others.
Valencia has some wonderful subsections within it. One of my favorites is “Bridgeport” which is famous for its landmark lighthouse and lake and “Westridge” which is built into the mountains and hosts a fantastic TPC golf course, The Valencia Tournament Players Club. We also have a nice public course just in case TPC is not in your price range! There are also several fantastic public and private golf courses nearby in the neighboring cities such as Robinson Ranch, a western style public course and one of my favorites, challenging well kept greens with outstanding views that is located only a few minutes away in Canyon Country. We have a lovely but affordable tennis and country club called “The Paseo Club” where you can meet and play tennis, swim, use exercise equipment, tennis lessons, aerobics classes etc. Valencia is also the location of several outstanding large chain “gyms” La Fitness, Spectrum Club and 24 hour fitness along with many other excellent smaller specialized gyms. Of course, I also need to mention our local and always growing YMCA. Our shopping mall, the Valencia Town Center , a Westfield center, is very architecturally pleasing with both an indoor mall and a beautiful outside area referred to as the “patio” where many other shops and a multitude of fine restaurants are located. The Valencia Town Center is almost a city in itself with its landmark Victorian carousel and world class shops, restaurants and cinemas. It can honestly be said that Valencia has it all, we now can boast that we even have a restaurant, Lazy Dog Café, specially designed so you can dine in luxurious surroundings with your best friend, the family dog.
